Plan: Build a visual alerting system that interfaces with the network monitoring system and cram in as many terrible jokes along the way.
Tech : ESP8266, Arduino, FastLED, Bash, PHP
So this was a follow on from the DiscoDuck project and uses similar code, it came about because I found these sweet little black owls in Poundland and replaced their okish red leds with full colour changing addressable ones.

A script parses the output of the NMS at work and then checks to see if there are any Major (Red), Minor (Orange) or no (Green) issues and sets the appropriate Owl for each platform. There is also an onboard webserver with the following end points :
- /red sets the owls red
- /orange sets the owls orange
- /green sets the owls green
- /disco sets of a full colour animation sweeping through a colour wheel
These only last until the next check in the cycle will revert the owls to their true status.

I soon decided they needed their own little stands, this gave me the opportunity for a terrible git/source control joke…

Check out what @tigg has done with our Halloween Owl… they've given it coloured, light up eyes! 😃🦉 https://t.co/WUldikoL87
